Basic Stamp + Reed Relay IC + 12V DC Motor

I'm planning to use a reed relay IC as a switch to control the on/off of the 12V DC through BasicStamp2. Attached is the datasheet of the reed relay IC (RS291-9710) and a diagram of components in mind. My two questions are:

1. How do I connect the motor and BasicStamp2 to the reed relay IC?
2. How do I use the reed relay IC?

If the reed relay operates on 5 Volts at less than 50 mA you can use a reed relay to operate directly, however I would advise against this

process.· As the magnetic field in the reed relay's coil·collapses the counter EMF might spike the BS2.

It's always best to interface the output either with a SSR (solid state relay that can be driven directly off the BS2 --- even up to 120 vac.·

Or, perhaps use a 2N2222A buffer transistor which will operate fine on 12 VDC and can run a 12 VDC reed relay.· A reverse diode is usually placed directly

across the relay coil to sap the collapsing field transient.

If you take a look at the datasheet supplied by the OP, you'll see that this particular unit has a built-in suppression diode.

Post Edit -- in the attached schematic, the coil turns on when the output is "0".· The coil resistance is "500Ω", so the draw is 10mA.· "+5" is "Vcc".
