Simple IR detector?

Hi All,
I was hoping you could help me with a problem. I am new to BasicStamp and I'm learning as I go so bear with me. I am trying to build a simple IR detector using the IR LED transmitter and IR Receiver from Parallax. I'd like to have them facing each other and give me a yes or no whether something is in the way and blocking the IR transmitter signal. If I wanted it to turn on an LED when the beam was blocked, how would I do that?
