I'm just looking at some options for accelerometers and gps but just like many shoe shops there are just so many to choose from. This is mainly for general use so I guess there are always trade-offs with which-ever choice we make. Mouser lists quite an array, here are a couple of devices that I am considering:

Accelerometer: MMA7660FC (I2C)
GPS: MN5010HS, SKYTRAQ VENUS634FLPx

Anyone had any experience with these kind of devices and perhaps if you had a few pearls of wisdom to share?

I've used the Freescale MMA7260Q accelerometer (analogue outputs). It's very easy to use, but needs to be placed close to the ADC inputs otherwise it picks up a lot of noise.

I have also used the mma7260 without problem, I have also used the LIS3LV02DQ, its nice when you dont have a ADC - its I2C, it also has selectable g ranges. Also the LIS302DL is the same if you dont need more than 8bit resolution.
In terms of gps i have used the SANAV FV-M8 and it worked well.

mma7260 works well in my PSM and is very low cost compared to alternatives...

Any acceleratometer should do the job - try the sparkfun boards if you want a break out - www.sparkfun.com

I like the u-blox GPS units as well. They are very easy to use - I've even put one on a home-made PCB. The AMY-5M is the smallest unit on the market at 8 mm x 6.5 mm!
