Quick question: Does anyone have a Web link for metal robot body parts, i.e. metal with holes pre-drilled (in various shapes and sizes)·for construction of different styles of robot for use with the BOE or the BS2p24/40 Demo Board
, like·a four wheeled model? I have found a universal plate here
http://www.hobbyengineering.com/H2032.html
but I think it is plastic.
thanks

check out the large home building stores (Home Depot, Lowes, Sears Hardware etc.) to see a great selection of connector plates (I think they are made by Simpson Strong-Tie)

    Here are some neat connectors...http://www.hobbyengineering.com/SectionFR.html

I found this do you think it will work.
    http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2104570&cp=2032062.2032398.2032404&pg=2&parentPage=family
I do not want the VEX STAMP. but I think the metal will work.
Although I feel like a traitor using VEX parts.

Have you checked out ebay for "erector set"? If these are the kinds of parts you are looking for, you might get more for your money on ebay!

Special_K, that RadioShack link you found sounds like a good deal (50% off).
I'm thinking of getting that myself, maybe.
For what it's worth, here are two more links:

I got the VEX parts pack (at my local Radio Shack, with sale price) Mounted my BOE, Servo Controller, and two AA battery packs to a body I made (in 20 min).
Just one note RadioShack does not include a HEX key with the parts pack.

    Nothing a multi-set of hex keys can't handle. burger.gif

Plenty already crossing the VeX/BOE-Bot lines, making hybrids.

think I will name my next bot Fizzgig..

Do you have any links to sites that have Vex/BOE-Bot hybrids?

The forums here have quite a few members (myself included) building bodies w/ VEX metal but using Parallax for the brains....

    Hi,,

Did a quick look at the VEX page and noted they have a pneumatic cylinder kit.·OK, given that it appears you would have to pump up your robot with a bicycle pump to recharge the resevoir and design around the pneumatic cyclinder movement.· It also appears that the cylinder gets activated through a switch that is connected to the vex "brains" somewhere.·

Would a stamp be able to drive this switch?

The pneumatics would make one hell of a gripper!!!

    Robert25-

When you CRUSH the middle of the first empty can you try to pick up, you may feel differently. A gripper should be able to grab an object gently and with a varying amount of side pressure. That might be a bit difficult or expensive using pneumatics. You'd need some kind of proportional air valve, and they can't come cheap!

    Regards,

It's probably driven just like any air solenoid. +5V to activate the valve.

Still remember the gripper one of the FRL robots used, for the 2005 competitions,
    had the following design:

\___|___/ when open.. /_|_\ closed.. to grab a tetra. all air solenoid & pneumatics.
was near impossible to dislodge the tetra, once it grabbed it, until it opened again.

I'd imagine, You'd have to make a simple transistor switch, powerful enough to drive the
air solenoid, and accept the TTL logic of the stamp.
