  ·· Not without some serious modification, since it relies on the holes in the standard full-size wheels to work properly.· You could use a similar set up to read the holes in the Tank Tread gear-wheels though I suppose.

  I had wondered if it was possible to read the holes in the tank tread gear-wheels. Thanks.

  what if you tried to read the holes in the tread itself? I figure it would work better than the gear-wheels, which are orange and might reflect too much light to get accurate readings.

  You could just find a way to fix a wheel like cut paper ,painted black and with in some order, on the back of the front "wheel"...
