I have done it, and with most PIR motion detectors it is very easy.· Most of them close or open a relay when motion is detected.· I just used a pullup resistor on the basic stamp lead, and also ran a wire from that same basic stamp lead to the PIR relay.· I grounded the other side of the relay.· When the relay was open, the stamp read a 1 on the pin and when the relay was closed the stamp read a 0.· Does that make sense?

Anyone know of anyone who's interfaced a PIR
motion detector to a Stamp? Thanks

Sorry I don't have the exact URL handy, but plug "Jesse's
hunting" into your search engine. You're looking for a site
called "Jesse's Hunting Page" I believe. There's some great tips
on hacking PIRs to make game cams. The hacks are pretty easy
and could be interfaced to the stamp easily (haven't done it yet
myself though).

The rate at which Iraq is sucking up tax dollars...
$158,000 per _MINUTE_.
you can you use just about any PIR the come with N.C or N.O relay contacts.
You can try the ADEMCO 998 PIR... this Pir has a look down feature which
make it great for over a door way

I believe that is a kit -- ie you have to install and solder components
yourself.

Three-pin PIR detector ICs put out a small voltage signal in response
to heat that has to be amplified to give a usable signal. As others
have said, you might be best off with one of the prefab security
modules that you can buy for cheap in almost any home or hardware
store, and hack into the alarm or relay circuit to bring the signal
into your stamp. It is not too hard to amplify the IC output,
though, if you do have some special application that precludes the
modules. PIR ICs are often available from surplus houses.

Just got a couple of these to trigger some of the "haunting" effects I'm
building for this Halloween.. Cheap ($4.75) and works great! :)

Here is a PIR module (without lenses) that I've been meaning to try. It
appears
as though interfacing it to a Stamp should be a simple matter:
http://www.mpja.com/directview.asp?product=7860+KT
Lenses for this unit are available separately on the same web site.
