Autonomous Fighting Robot Sensor Question

My good friend and I are building an autonomous fighting robot for the October 17th Engineering Expo and Antweight Challenge and we are using a single devantech ultra sonic·range finder mounted on a servo connected to a bs2.

We are starting the communication with the distance finder and have found that when we run the debug it will give the "1", a null reading, 9 times out of ten.· The weird thing is that the one time every so often, not consistantly, it will give a logical reading.· Does anyone have any experience with these sensors, and would have some advise for working out the bugs?

Thank you,

Graham

Probably not what you want to hear, reconfirm wiring connections with the sensor.

Sure enough on our third rewiring job the ground accidentaly fell out of place and it seems to be working perfectly. Besides the overwhelming joy I have of getting this thing to finally work I am curious as to why it works without the ground wire plugged into the vss on the board of education?

    Any thoughts,
