Just started happening recently.

First time access a P1 is okay.
Can detect hardware or load ram just fine.
Once.

But second time - No propeller found.

Unplug and reconnect -
It's Baa-ack...

What's that about?

Is there a program running on your P1 that is interfering with the download process. If you have a reset button on your P1 board, press it and release just before as you click to download.

  • Yes, there is a program running from ROM.

But pressing the reset button just before clicking on the menu item
    didn't do anything different. (Quickstart)

Still have to cycle the USB cable

    Checking preferences -

Propeller reset signal is supposed o be DTR & RTS?

It is working correctly that way at least.

Standard Propeller Plug and board designs use DTR as the reset signal for the Propeller. I found the QuickStart schematic on my computer and verified this.

  • Thanks, Jon.

When I checked it (finally) Prop Tool was set DTR only.
Set for DTR/RTS made Prop Tool work.

I just now changed the USB cable and Reset back to DTR.
    All good.

    Bad Cable?

I’ve had bad cables in the distant past where things like this would happen.
    Mostly the retractable kind.

These days get bad iPhone cables all the time.

Think usb-c is way to go. Think need p1 board with that. Have not seen that fail yet. But also new, so who knows …

Yes, I have also had problems with the retractable cables. I stopped using them for anything a while ago.

Another problem is that there are two common types of USB mini and micro cables - charging cables and data cables. Charging cables are mainly intended for charging devices and may not have all the pins wired up - some will also work as data cables and some won't. I have not seen this problem with USB C cables. USB C is also more robust, and you can't plug them in the wrong way - the number of USB ports on expensive devices I have seen ruined by having the cables forced in the wrong way would make you weep.

Really, no-one should be manufacturing new products with anything except USB C.

Don't worry, charge-only USB C cables exist just as well. Gotta save 5 cents on those 2 strands of copper.
