  The subtitle of the Maxim page for this product is "Optical Fusion: Digitize Colors and Detect Proximity at 12µA." I read the last part as "Detect Proximity at 12 micro Angstroms." I was thinking that's pretty close!

  @ erco - the pins are only 0.3mm x 0.75mm on 0.65mm centres. Shouldn't be that difficult
