Pin header jumpers

I've been looking but can't seem to find the right search terms. Connectors to make jumpers to go from pin header to header. We have these great ones at work that come in a sack and lock together. Soldered to a clip that fits inside is the wire. You just snap them together for whatever configuration you want. I would be happy with a rack of them that have an end to solder the wire to and cut to size. Am I just missing something here. This sounds just to simple not to be able to find.

I hate to just pick up the 3 wire ones from the Parallex Store when I never know just how many wires I need.

Anyone know what I'm getting at here? Little help if you could. :)

    ──> C-Grid 0.1 Crimp Connector Housings·and Box Crimp Terminals
    Digi-Key on-line catalog pg. 179 (current), lower 1/2

[Sorry, can't link to a PDF of the specific catalog page there anymore.]

(Post Edit -- These are for crimping, but since you mentioned it you could solder them, I suppose, if you want to.· The "tricky part" would be to avoid solder creeping into the terminal area and wicking back into the wire.)

Thanks, that is the term I was seeking. Crimp type is fine. I just couldn't find them in the new Digi-Key catalog. I think I liked it better when I had to copy the part number and go to a separate search page. Gahhh, it's clunky.

    I appreciate your help.

You can get the parts you need from Jameco.com -- I routinely use these:

    #100766 -- female crimp pin
    #100812 -- 2-pin shell
    #157382 -- 3-pin shell
#159266 -- crimper tool (one-time purchase, of course)

    I use these from SparkFun

    www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8430

    They carry both F-F and M-M versions, or plug a F-F into a M-M and make a F-M

Since I tried these, I'll never go back to plain wires! they are great for breadboarding, and I think the price is reasonable.

I use mostly either Molex SL or KK type to make my own. Several places sell pre-made single wire versions that are very handy for breadboarding. They come in male to male, male to female and female to female. I know Parallax and Jameco (and SparkFun too, I think) have these. Here is a pic of an SL type I made myself. The plastic housings the pins snap into come in a wide variety of configurations.

Thanks to all for the help! Hopefully the next person looking for this info will find this thread and be on their way. I went with the Jameco parts (and almost forgot the crimpers) so I should have the selection I need. Now to grab a few lengths of 96 count 24ga solid phone line from work (from our phone training session) and I'll have all the colors I need.

It's really nice to know when I have questions there are helpful (and friendly) people out there to cut down on the confusion.

    I really appreciate everyones suggestions.
