Watt/power sensor

Hi All,

What I need now is a power/watt sensor, like a Kill-A-Watt, but with serial/isp/i2c etc. output. It needs to handle 240VAC. I have found a couple of chips, but they seem too complicated for lil ol me. The ideal would be if it was cheap enough to use in multiple locations, but just one would suffice for now.

Thanks!

Jonathan

    Jonathan -

This chip looks promising, from Analog Devices:

    Hi Bruce,

Hope the holidays are going well for you!

The link you posted seems to point here. I cutNpasted it into my browser and wound up back here. I'll go poke around on Analog's website.

    Thanks!

    Jonathan

Allegro makes some really awesome hall effect current sensors with ratiometric outputs. If the voltage is known, then all you need is ohm's law. If you need to read voltage as well, a little transformer, a resistive divider, and an ADC will work to tell you if it's 110, 125, 220, 240, etc.

You'll need a 2ch 8 bit ADC to make it work, but those are literally a dime a dozen these days.
