USB Problem with Prop Plug

I just got a protoboard for Christmas from my loverly wife. When I plug it in to the USB port on my computer using a prop plug. Both lights on the Prop Plug blink. The first time the mouse USB froze, the second the whole system froze. Any idea as to what would cause this?

    Odd, but I have it fixed. Plugging the Prop Plug without the protoboard made the computer notice a "USB to Serial Converter" and then adding the protoboard has made everything seemingly happy. But the Propeller Tool doesn't find the Protoboard.

    Have you provided power to the Protoboard? The Prop Plug is powered by the USB bus, but the Protoboard has to be powered as well.

    I didn't realize the protoboard couldn't pull from the USB's +5v. Thanks! Now It sees it... and everything is golden.
