Relay?? or motor controller?

I am building a four wheeled off road robot out of an old RC car I had laying around. I am trying to use as many components from it as I can however I am having trouble figuring out how or if I can use the motors. I figured if· use a relay that the microcontroler could activate it would be possible, however· cant find a relay that the microcontroler has enough current to activate. What would you suggest?

Where are you getting the power? And how do you have it wired?

Transistor powering the motor, not the relay...

I have a BS2. I have the base connected to the PIN 0, the collector connected to the 9vdc VIN, and the emmitter connected through the motor to ground. I am not getting enough power to run the motor.

The base should never connect directly to the I/O pin as you can damage it from excessive current draw. If this is an NPN transistor then the Emitter should be connected to Ground and the collector to one side of the load and the other side of the load to your Vin. Take care.

So what should I place·between the PIN and·the base to control the switching?

The "Industrial Control" tutorial that you can download for free from www.parallax.com/Portals/0/Downloads/docs/books/edu/ic.pdf has a section on controlling relays and small motors around page 85.

This drives a stepper motor but you could use it for your application.

You could go solid state ... have a look at this thread - I attached a data sheet for a PVDZ172N ..
