Old topic again No stamp found

Hi guys

I am a very occassional user of the Stamp and thus often find myself relearning stuff over and over. Last time I was doing some experimenting, (about 2 years ago), I had the old blue USB adapter working on my laptop and was able to identify and program the Stamp2 that I use.

I connected it all up yesterday and cannot get the software to see the Stamp. I have searched these forums and found similar questions but have had no luck using the advice in the postings myself.

I have uninstalled my old Stamp editor and reinstalled the latest from the Parallax website (as one posting suggested since it included the USB software)
I have tried the latest drivers from the FTDI web page.
I have reduced the Latency timer as per the FAQ troubleshooting page.

When I do an Identify, the USB lights flash and it gives me Com4 and Loops and Echos OK. When I submit a sample program, it says "No Stamp found"

I am noting that when the USB adapter is connected, there is no icon for it on the task bar such as exists when any other USB product is connected ie flash drive or mp3. Yet, when it does come up in Device manager and is listed as working OK.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Shawn

Make sure there's proper power applied. You will get Loops OK and Echos OK even if there's no power applied, but the Stamp has to be actually working to identify itself and to download programs.

    Shawn,

The Green LED being lit is not an indication of adequate power. The LED requires only a few volts to operate while the regulators require more then .5V higher than their output of 5V. You should have at least 6V on the input. If you’re using a 9V battery it should be 9V. Are you testing the input voltage with a meter?

Actually, I am running it off of one of the 5 volt regulators (small pc board ) Parallax sells which connects to the protoboard bus. As I mentioned, I do this stuff so sporadically, I may have forgotten the stamp requirements and perhaps I cannot do this?? I will have to go back and check some voltages. You might be on to something.

    I will report back.

    Thanks.

    Hi guys

Just to follow up....I think the problem was the voltage to the Stamp...I was supplying it with 5.0 volts so by the time the on board reg took its share, the stamp was low. I powered it up with 12 vdc and it seems to be working fine.

If I could just stay with things long enough so that I did not forget the basics, I might move forward a little....:-(

    Thanks for the input
