I cant reprogram my bot, but I can read

I can't reprogram my boe-bot. The "identify" command in the "Run" menu·doesn't work neither.

The program in the boe-bot is sending lots of text. I can monitor that through the debug terminal.

It's an old robot. Several years old. But the stamp editor is new. I downloaded it yesterday from parallax website.

Anybody have any ideas?

If you have a another Basic Stamp Board try programing that and see if you can

    If not try these thing

    # 1 Is the battery good

#2· Are you using a usb adpter>>>> Do you have the driver from the Parallax site

#3 Can you try loading something like>>>>>· Turning a Led or light ON & OFF

    And see if this works

You can·try reloading the Bassic Stamp Editor agian

    Thank you Sam·for the advice.

·- Sadly, I don't have any other basic stamp.

·- I've bought new batteries. So I guess they are good.

·- I am using a serial port on the computer.

    ·- I can't load anything.

The current program in the boe-bot is sending a lot of text messages. Could that prevent me from identifying the chip or loading programs?

I will go tomorrow and buy a new serial cable.

    Sam,

The editor will reset the stamp prior to downloading the new program; so unless the COM port is being used be another program (perhaps HyperTerminal) the stamp will not be effected by the current program running.

Do you have a volt meter to test the battery? Do you get "Yes" on ECHO and LOOPBACK when you identify the stamp?

    Thank you Joshua!

    I don't have a volt meter.

When I try to identify, the ECHO and LOOPBACK will say "No".

    Best regards,

Ask for a DMM·(digital multimeter)·for Christmas (or just pick one up), they are inexpensive and a necessary tool for anyone working with electronic circuits.

before you buy a new cable do you have another computer that you can try the cable and boe bot on. that will eliminate a few possibilities.

also from what I understand is that you pulled out your boe bot dusted it off and this is basically the first time you've connected it to this computer. if so have you checked the BIOS to make sure that the ports are enabled. It's showing up in the list so they might be enabled but have a wierd setting or a conflict.

for what it's worth, I had the exact symptoms on my PC and the port was fried. I bought a PCI serial card for $20.00 I'd make that your last resort tho.

Yes, it is the first time I try the boe on this computer.

I do have another computer (linux).

I have been able to communicate successfully with other devices over this comport.

I will try your suggestions a little later.

    Best regards,
