Setting up USB connection

I am trying to do the initial setup for my Parallax Board of Education using a USB connection.· My Board has a mini USB connector attached to the board, so I do not need a connector.· But my Basic Stamp program only provides for COM ports.· How do I get to a USB port?

Make sure you have the latest version of the editor from Parallax's website and make sure you have the latest version of the FTDI drivers from their website.

Once you've installed the FTDI USB Driver, when you plug in your board, your computer will detect a USB device has been attached. It will query the port, discover that it's an FTDI USB device, load the FTDI USB Driver, and the USB driver will appear (to your computer) like a new serial port.

As a side-note, if you install the latest BASIC Stamp Editor, it should give you the option to install the USB Drivers during the installation process.
