Directly Connect an RF Transmitter to the Computer?

So I have a simple single-channel RF transmitter and I installed a matching receiver on the boe-bot. Is there a way I can directly connect the transmitter to the PC w/o using another Stamp?
I know the BS2 has 4 pins dedicated for serial communication, so could I just attach the transmitter to the data transmit pin on the serial port and the receiver to the SIN pin of the bs2 and just use the serial port? And also what is the function of the ATN pin on the bs2? Flow control. There are also two serial pins shorted across on the BOE, why?
Also I believe the TX & RX use TTL logic so anyone see any potential voltage problems?
