Hi. i planing to make a LED Cube 3x3x3 matrix cube with my BS2 BOE (Board Of Education). I have 16 pins that i can use. The thing is, that·I can only use the totaly of 40mA on my BS2. Is ther any way I can amplify the current with an external power source and transistor. If so. how do you recomend i do it?

BTW: a 3x3x3 would give you 27 outputs not 16.
But a cube has 6 sides and 3x3 implies 9 LEDs per side. Multiply this times 6 sides and you will need (9*6 = 54 LEDs). Is this right?
You will need to form a matrix or the easiest way is to simply use (1) MAX7219 (which will provide current for 64 LEDs). There are lots of examples for using this IC with the BS2 on this forum too.
9x(+), and 3x(-) for each floor.

Think Inside the box first and if that doesn't work..
Re-arrange what's inside the box then...
Think outside the BOX!
