Circuit drawing software?

I see a lot of people posting their circuits along with their posts.
What software is being used to do this? I'm just looking for some basic functionality to be able to draw circuits and get away from scribbling on paper.
Even better if this software is free/cheap?

Thanks,
Alex

It would be cool is there was a component/PCB exchange library. each of the major programs could have their own section. I'm sure a basic stamp has been recreated several time by multiple people

I use express PCB but looking at some of these I think I'm going to switch.

I've got an OLD version of OrCAD (version 5)....we're trying to find out if the newest version (15.x) will still open the old drawings! Yikes!

If you are going or need to make PCB to test your design then try expresspcb. http://www.expresspcb.com/
You can have boards made and in your hands within one or two days depending on how much you want to spend. You will get good quality boards to test, with just a few clicks. You don't have to send gerber files or anything like that.

If you want to go into production and want to price out some PCB manufactures to see who will give you a better price then you can use Eagle lite from Cad Soft. It has an auto router feature too....

You do have a few good choices ... Those are the ones that use.

I still use an old version of Circuitmaker 2000 which I cracked to allow me to use their Traxmaker program (for PCB design). The company that manufactured it was bought out and now makes different software so I don't feel too bad about having a hacked copy...

Otherwise, it's a great program. I really don't want to switch to anything else as I'm really lazy and don't want to have to learn a new interface.

It would definitely be helpful to have a place to exchange part libraries - I'm sure the same parts have been created over and over by users of this forum.

    terrymr -

The problem would seem to be that numerous different formats are used by the various programs, and they're probably not interchangable. Perhaps there is a user forum on Yahoo Groups that addresses one or more of these drawing programs. There you might even find a user written utility that converts from one format to another.

    Just a thought.
