IR detector with heat

Can the IR detector that comes with the boe-bot be used to detect light given off by a flame? If not, what could be used?

Since the flame is moving all the time as it flickers, I'll bet the PIR that Parallax sells for about $8.00 would work up to about 15 feet or so. Has anyone used this PIR sensor for flame detection? The PIR sensor is probably cheaper than thermopile sensors.

No, I don't think the PIR sensor would work for a flame.

the ir will sense light, and can be programmed to approach it or avoid it. I've used a flashlight like a leash to guide my bot down a corridor and also programmed it to avoid the reflection of overhead fluorescent fixtures on a polished tile floor. Since the fire is flickering, I'm not sure you can overcome it's tendency to either go to or avoid the momentary flickering hot spots
