New website...what is FTDI???

I like the feel of the new website.·

I see a big section on FTDI.· What is FTDI?· There is no explanation.·
Please remember that I'm a newbie to FTDI...please give me the very basic overview of what it is, how I can use it etc.

Parallax uses and sells stuff manufactured by FTDI like USB to serial adapter chips and USB host chips.
