SX28 Part for Proteus

Hello,

I am just beginning to learn how to use Proteus PCB layout software. I want to design a super simple SX28 pcb with video for learning how to prototype after graduating out of the Video Console Design course with Andre Lemothe and Josh Hintze. I registered for the online support at Labcenter but I understand that there are no SX chips on the parts list. I guess that my next project is to make my own part but I am checking to see if there are any SX28AC/DP-G parts made for the Proteus that I can acquire?

Currently, I am looking at the SX20AC-SX28AC-Data-v1.6.pdf for the SX28AC-DP footprint dimensions. In the Proteus/ARES Packages - Integrated Circuit, Dual Inline Packages - have two DIP parts that seem to about the right size, except one is twice the width:

DIP28, 2.54mm pitch DIP footprint, length: 33.02mm, Width 7.60mm
DIP28X, 2.54mm pitch DIP footprint, length: 33.02mm, Width 15.20mm

I am not seeing a 2.54mm or pitch on the specs sheet, pg48of51, rev. 1.6. The SX28 length is 33.02m and the width is 7.35mm yet that is the case dimensions. I am not sure how to tell if the SX28 will fit into the DIP part. Does the DIP28 work?

You will want to use your first choice:

    DIP28, 2.54mm pitch DIP footprint, length: 33.02mm, Width 7.60mm

Also look at page 48 of 51 of the SX-28 datasheet here:

If you want to build a color SX-28 project using assembly look at this site also:

And of course to keep it simple in B/W look at:

Great! I actually got my official Proteus in the mail yesterday and installed it. I have been looking at all the parts on the netlist with the demo version. I will definately be going to those links asap.

    Thanks much,
    JB

Okay. I looked at the urls. I am working on an XGS Pico clone project but I am thinking of adding a second joystick. I am going over the joystick design ideas from my class with Andre LeMothe.

I had printed out the PICO schematics as well as the SX-Proto from Rho Enterprises/1999, SX-Game System from Richard Gunee this summer to compare. I came back to the joystick·and·discovered the Pico uses·Pins RB0-RB4, five pins;·Gunee·uses two joysticks -·5 Pins each·but the·schematics looks wanky.

How is this project now: are you still programming on it? Did you move onto another similar project?

I haven't worked on this project since the 2 play PONG game. I have it my bench still to do something with it over the Holiday's perhaps.

The last thing I was working on for this project was looking at the JoyStick models. I went over those issues with Andre LaMothe at the GI Video Console Design course. I decided that the best concept for me to try was using two chips - one for each joystick. But that is as far as I got so far. I have not chosen the chip(s) and I am also working on learning the Hydra too.

I was thinking that a Networked Pong game would be a cool project: two pcbs connected over ethernet to play Pong.
