Start designing robots with Sketchup!

in an effort to show how easy and fun it is to design robots in sketchup I have started building Parallax and other common parts in sketchup for you. you can visit my "parts collection" at sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?styp=c&uq=03585679027900082908 the parts are as accurate as i can get them.. (very accurate). they are free to download and use.

I would also like to build involvement in building a parts collection. imagine having every parallax, solorbotics, budget robotics, etc. part at your disposal for designing. no more waiting until the part arrives to decide how to connect it and/or if it will fit.

my goal is to add a new part every other day until I run out of the parts I have. I don't have all of the parts so I'm really hoping for some involvement so we can get a complete set of parts... at least for parallax parts.

for those who don't know. Sketchup is a program By @last (bought this year by Google) which is a very easy to use and intuitive program. it's free and has several video tutorials available online. you don't need to know CAD to use sketchup.

let me know what you think.

Nice job. I will second your comment about sketchup being very easy to use. I have only played with it a bit, but it takes nothing to "doodle" some nice 3D drawings.

I just added a few more items, including a Motor that is pretty close to the one that Parallax is going to start selling. It's close enough to design with. and if someone at Parallax, provided dimensions I could make a 3d model of the whole assembly. (hint hint)

With this model could start designing now and be ready for the release of these motors.

here is the thread that talks about the motors
