resistor needed for GPS?

The GPS receiver says it requires +5V.· I believe this is what the BS2 puts out, no?· Do I need to use a resistor when connecting the I/O to the power?·(From what I've read this is more so for protecting the stamp than the component?)

and if so, what value of resistor?

Or do I just plug and go????

Please advise.

It's been awhile since I used the BS2 by itself. I can't remember how much power the 'on board' reg can supply. That being said, I'm pretty sure the GPS unit will draw too much from it..thus it would shut down. The GPS unit does draw a good deal of current. You'll have to add a voltage reg. to your project. That's for the power supply side.

Your statement "connecting the I/O to the power" has me puzzled. The I/O should not be connected to power (Vdd). If you are asking about a 'current limiting resister' between the I/O on the stamp and the GPS unit, then: It's a very good idea to place a 220 ohm resister there. I don't think I did, but do as I say, not as I do. The GPS unit just outputs/receives 5 volt (TTL level) RS232 data.
