Lets just say, for the sake of discussion, that I wanted to make my own oscillo
Although this is way over my head now, I think it would make a fun project in the future. However, I would have no idea where to begin.
I have two ideas in mind. The first is to use a large (1024x768 or larger) color LCD with touch panel with an 8-input 16-bit or higher ADC for increased resolution. The other option would be to make a x16 PCI Express card, also with an 8-input 16-bit or higher ADC and Windows based software.
While the details of an oscilloscope escape me currently, the biggest questions I have deal with data conversion. An ADC makes sense for analog signals, but I'm assuming that digital signals are just passed straight through to the processor, bypassing the ADC entirely? I'm also assuming that the standard buffers, amplifiers and filters on the inputs of the ADC would be more of a detriment than a help here, correct?
If I were to do this, it would be a year or more down the road, so I have plenty of time to do research. Any advice, help, comments, etc., would be appreciated.
