Reading RPM signal from a 3W engine

Hi Guys :

I am trying to use the BS2 to read the RPM signal from a 3W engine. The engine has a hall effect sensor that connects to an ignition control unit
for ignition timing control. The ignition control unit provides a output whicn is the RPM signal (I am not sure what type of signal·is it?). What I want
to do is to use the BS2 with the A/D convertor to read that RPM signal and then do some controller design to control the engine output. I will highly
appreciat that if any of you have experience on it and would like to let me know how I can do it. Thanks !

First thing is to find out what type of signal you are trying to read. Then maybe we can give you some options for reading it.

If I knew the make model and year I could get manufacturer data to you.
    You need information.

That will be awesome. I am working on a 3W75US engine made from 3W engine manufacturer. I don't know the manufactured year but we order it in last year.

It depends on how 3W has the RPM output setup. I doubt it is a direct connection to the hall effect sensor. Try connecting an ohmmeter to the yellow and white wires from the engine and rotate the prop. It may just close when the hall effect sensor sees the magnet. 3W makes an add on tachometer for these engines, and it doesn't look too complicated (from the outside anyhow)

    Ignition manual for 3W engines:
    www.3w-modellmotoren.com/mounting_tips/manuals_engl/3W_ignition_4_1.pdf
    doesn't explain the signal though.
