HB-25 and Battery Issue

All--
My HB-25s APPEAR to drain my dual 4200 maH batteries over a period of time measured in a days with no activity. The HB-25s do not have their 12vdc power connected. This is what I think, which may well be totally wrong . . .
The HB-25s are connected to Stamp output pins. The Stamps are alive. (The dual 4200 maH batteries have run them for weeks blinking LEDs. They only stopped because I wanted to do something with them.) The HB-25s are also grounded to Stamp VSS. Is there any way the HB-25s could draw enough current through this arrangement to drain that (relatively) huge battery supply? (Of course, the HB-25's cooling fans are not running because they have no 12vdc power.)
Although I end each program that uses an HB-25 with . . .
PULSOUT HB25, 750
STOP
. . . now and then I have to simply pull the plug and those two statements never get to the HB-25s.
Thoughts? (This is not a tradegy. However, I had planned to leave the Stamps up constantly.)
