LinkMatik 2.0 troubles

I am working on a project and I came across a thread that you posted regarding the LinkMatik2.0. Right now I am trying to program the device using the device firmware thru Windows Hyperterminal, but am getting no response. Here is how the device is set up:
In Configuration Mode:
Baud 9600
Data 8
Parity None
Stop 1
Flow Control HW
To begin, the evaluation board that I bought does not flash the status LED as it states in the Evaluation Board Datasheet. Also, when I type a command into hyperterminal, it seems that hyperterminal delays and nothing happens.
I have tried typing:
SET CONTROL ECHO 111
in order to echo back the start-up banner and echo characters back to the client when an event has been set, but nothing.
Have you used the evaluation board and the devices firmware, and if so did you get it working.
