I have been monitoring the posts throughout the forum and want to thank all who answer questions and those that post.· I have learned a lot.· As a non IT project manager I managed large pc controled and plc controled material handling system utilizing large sortation devices.· Many of these systems used microprocessors at the sort stations.· I new very little about these small processors, so after retiring I decided to learn.· The Parallax devices caught my eye and here I am.

Originally I started out to design a Kiln controler using the 2px and thermocouple kit, using the solder pot project in this forum as reference.· That changed to a robotic effort after a short time.· Some VEX parts came into my poscession ie., motors, tank tread kit, and wheel encoders.· Having on hand some 2"x2"x1/8" aluminum angle I proceeded to design the base chassis using AutoDesk AutoSketch7.· Resulting in the device in the attached photos.

Using the Parallax Servo Controller I have testing the VEX motors and they work fine.· My next step is to install ir, procure ping, install encoders, and a Garmin GPS, a 16 GHS unit.· Along with this I am developing my code for each device.

Eventually I hope to mount a camera on board.

I LIKE YOUR 'BOT BETTER THAN MINE!!!

You must tell me about those tracks. Where did you get them? Width? Are they extensible?

    Hmmm. "cutsrock." Springfield. Ash Grove?

No, I live in Kansas City, MO.· I am a flintknapper and make stone tools as another hobby.· Using a slab saw I cut different cherts, flints, and other knappable stone into slabs in order to conserve material.· My father moved to South of Mtn. Grove when he retired.· My brothers and I kept his farm after he passed.
I got the tracks, and motors at a garage sale, but they can be purchased on line from www.vexlabs.com.· They come in two strands for a total of 65" with boogie wheels and drive and idler wheels.· I did not use all of the links in my treads.· Links can be removed individually.· They are about 1.5" wide and have a pitch of about .4".· In order to have more length ypu would need to aquire a second set since they don't sell the components seperate.· Might check ebay.· I have picked up some Parallax stuff there.
I chose Parallax over VEX because of the basic language used and you can have sub-routines.· Vex language is a form of c and has to be written as one long continuous program.

Thanks for the info. I will research your tracks and compare them to LynxMotion's tracks.

KCMO, huh? Did you know that I live in KCK?

No I didn't know where you lived.

    The world is small.

I don't blame you for choosing parallax over the vex (although, i do like their motors), but you can make subroutines in easy C, I have done it before.· I can't remeber if they are called subroutines or something else.· Nice frame.
