Torque Control and Load Measurement - Help!

I am trying to·achieve precision torque control for a stepper motor.
The motor rotates a drum which is coupled to a thread. As the drum rotates, it pulls on the thread thereby applying a certain load. The load application has to be very precise hence the precision torque control. Also, i need to be able to determine the load on the thread (using a load cell)·and maintain it once it reaches a desired value using feedback.
Where can i find a torque control device and a load cell that is compatible with basic stamp 2 (i should be able to control them using bs2)? Also, how can i get my readings off the load cell using an analogue to digital converter?
