This is not a robot...· this is a computer on wheels.· It runs WiFi and and move about freely.· I do not want to call it a robot because it is not anonomous.· When the thing runs into to walls it needs to be reset.· I do not want to push the button or have to it reset or I do not want to IPL the computer OS.· The OS is XPE or XP Pro.· The Thing has two CAMS one is infra and the other is plan.· It is interesting what you can purchase for less than 20$.· I want to add stability and a way to reset all devices if there is a problem.· I do not want to IPL on the run because when it is in the yard I can get in the street.· Any ideas.

I want to turn the idea of the thing into something to clean my neighorhood.· It runs B or G WiFi.·

Any ideas...

Also I would like to build more intelligence into the Thing.· I know when it gets lost.· Does anyone have ideas for hooking PING off of USB direct?

You can't hook a PING off of USB direct. What you can do is get a USB-based Stamp board which will look like a serial port to the PC. You can write a short program the runs on the Stamp, PINGs the environment, and sends the received information back to the PC as serial data via the simulated serial port.

You could even buy and mount the PING servo bracket and have the Stamp build a map of the area and send that to the PC.

    OK

Can I hook other sensors off of the same stamp board. Can I hook 5 DC sensing devices off the same stamp board or will I need a stamp board for each application?

you can turn off the power to the servo board to reset it. Remember, more info, better answers. Give us part numbers so we know exactly what you are talking about (links would be better)

How many sensors you can hook to one Stamp depends on how many I/O pins each sensor needs and how many pins you have available. For most Stamps, it's 16, some of which are likely to be needed for other things. Sensors may require 1, 2, 3, or 4 pins typically depending on what kind of communications is going back and forth. There are ways to expand the I/O capability of a Stamp. There are plenty of articles in the Nuts and Volts series of columns on this subject. Have a look (under Downloads on the Parallax main page).

I will work to not duel post. The product is the 28023 Servo for the question on how to hard reset. I will start a different thread on how to program the stamp card to use sensors...
