Hi all,

I need some advice for parts and how to implement/fix encoder for my Track Bot.

Anybody have done this before?

I'm really surprised I haven't been about to find a "universal" circuit for encoders, 90% of the examples I have found are for servos.

Interesting... I wonder if it is because you can buy DC motors with built-in encoders, so folks looking to add encoders to a DC motor are rare (assuming that most would have just purchased a motor w encoder unit from the start). I don't know for sure, so I would be interested to hear if others have better explanations.

I've never used a motor with a built in encoder, but i think you still need a circuit of some sort to process the data.

    Hi steve,

I'm aware about the digital encoder for the boe bot but how·can i adapt it to my track bot.

    Is there any other method?

    Dgswaner,

I can't get any motor with build in encoder in my place.

I don't know azmax100... I believe the reason the two (digital encoders and treads) can not be done at the same time is purely a mechanical issue in that the use of the digital encoders will misalign the tread wheels. Seems like if you can design a new platorm (replace the BOEbot chasis) and mounting scheme, you can accomplish it.

Here's how I mounted an optical encoder to my tracked vehicle.· Good luck.

    Hi cutsrock.

Are u using Parallax digital encoder?

Can you please post some picture of your track vehicle so ican see clearly how you did it.

    Thanks.

azmax100,· I have dis-assembled my track bot to drill some additional holes for mounting a bottom skid cover and other acessories so I can't take a picture.· This thread shows some pictures that I took just before completing the dis-assembly.· http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=685304·.· The encoders are VEX units that I bought a a garage sale before ever getting started in robotics.· I was building a positioning plate and was going to·use the encoders to do that.· In the first pic in the above thread you can seen some square notches cut into the angle frame.· This allows the encoders to be mount vertically.· You can go to www.vexlabs.com and see the encoders.· I made an angle bracket to attach the encoder to and then attach the angle bracket to the frame.· I should have the unit back together by next week.· I can post more pics then.
