HELP!: Simple problem: Board of Education cannot use null modem?

My lousy basic stamp supplier didnt include a serial cable together with my BS2-IC Board of education.
I can make one null modem cable, but I read in the manual "You cannot use null modem cable". Do I have to connect 0.1uF capacitors to pin 4, and short pin 6 and 7?
Why the manual say cannot use null modem cable? It seems like the capacitors in pin 4 are already included in the board of education, and pin 6 and 7 is already shorted.
How to go about making the cable? Cross pin 2 and 3, and link all the other pins straight?
Thanks.

A serial cable has pin 2 to pin 2, and pin 3 to pin 3.
You need the serial cable
