Read protect for EEPROM

Is it possible to read protected on the Propeller EEPROM? It is a standard 24LC256 EEPROM. Therefore, anyone can read the content of the firmware and duplicate that easily. Which mean Propeller is not mean for commercial product? Please correct me if I’m wrong.

There have been several long discussions (threads) on this issue. Yes, there is no protection against reading the contents of the program EEPROM. That doesn't mean that the Propeller is not meant for commercial use. It is very easy for someone with the proper equipment and experience to read the contents of a protected EEPROM inside a microprocessor. If you think that using a microprocessor with a protected program memory will prevent a determined thief from stealing and duplicating the program, you are wrong. The issue is to make it impractical or too difficult or expensive for a casual thief to do so. There are many ways to do so that don't involve some kind of protected program memory. None of them are unbreakable, but then using a protected program memory is not unbreakable.
