I'm using expanded PVC for the first time, what is the best glue to use? can I use PVC pipe glue?

This stuff is tolerant of solvent glues and non-solvent polyurethane glue. You might try Gorilla-PVC glue.

is that the same as the darker colored Gorilla glue? I haven't looked at the gorilla glue at home depot to see if it says PVC.

I'm not exactly sure what to say the color is... but it says Gorilla PVC right on the label.

I looked for gorilla glue for PVC but I couldn't find any, I bought Amazing GOOP. it said it was for PVC but I wouldn't call it amazing. I'm not sure if I gave it enough time to dry.. about 10 minutes, but I diced not to wait for it and screwed the expanded PVC together with screws.

I've got to say expanded PVC it great stuff! I put together a Pan and tilt frame for some servos in about an hour. with only a miter saw and a drill! I'm hooked!

PVC is a thermoplastic resin which is soluble in solvents such as ketones and esters. So-called glues made for PVC plumbing are mostly blends of these types of solvents, so what is happening when you use them is more like a weld than a glue joint. Each piece is partially dissolved by the "glue" then they fuse together at the joint. When the solvent in the glue evaporates, what you end up with is a more or less continuous piece of plastic.

This is the same way that glue for plastic model kits works. The only problem I can think of might be that the solvent type glue might be too strong for the (less dense) expanded PVC and melt it completely away.

Supposedly, it's tolerant of the solvent based liquid bonding designed for pipes.

The manufacturer says that won't melt away when using solvent but I personally feel that the nomal ketone based·liquid swabby stuff generally used for PVC pipes is very nasty (fumes, flammable, etc) which is why I mentioned GORILLA PVC. Designed for PVC pipes , but not a messy volatile liquid. Cleans up with water.

The sites I went to that make/sell the stuff seem to say the PVC pipe glue will work.
