vista question

actually its several questions about vista.
first let me say that i did not want to "upgrade" to vista on my home computer. but.. I just ordered one from dell and a price that I could not build a desktop for and that is forcing me to move to vista.. unless I buy another copy of XP and wipe the disk and intall that.. I may do that but I would rather not give microsoft another 100 bucks so I can run the computer that already has there latest OS. .. ikes..so if I have to go back to xp i will but.
what I would like to know is what parallex software works in vista.
I use the programing tools for both Basic stamps and propeller. I also bought a understanding signals kit that I am only half way done with at the moment. the software that interfaces to the oscilloscope? does that run in vista?
I have a feeling im going to hate.. i mean really hate vista.
thanks

I am using *right now* both SXKey and the Propeller IDE, and Visual Studio...and I don't have any problems.
A lot of people say they hate vista, vista sucks, vista is the devil, etc...But truth is I am writing this message in Vista, and I work regularly with Software/Hardware integration and I haven't had any problems with Vista.· The People that say all of these horrible things about Vista either A) Don't even use it, or tried the Beta and say it sucks.
Maybe Im an anomoly, but I've been using it for 6 months without any crashes or hardware difficulties.
trouble is.. I was really happy with XP. it ran solid and I havent had any problems with it for years. im in the habit of "if it aint broke, dont fix it"
I wonder when the USB Oscope software will be updated to work in vista?

To my knowlege, we have seen very few problems using the BASIC Stamp Editor or Propeller Tool with Vista. The FTDI USB drivers·have been bundled with the latest·installer version for both of those and include both XP and 32-bit Vista, so·you should not have difficulty using a Parallax USB board.
The only exception I'm aware of is the 4.0 software for the Parallax USB Oscilloscope, which is the software used in the Understanding Signals kit; it does not run on Vista.· We do have a 5.0 beta software for the oscilloscope, but it is a complete rewrite. The interface is different,·and does not have all of the same features as the 4.0.· Most specific to the Understanding Signals book, it lacks zoom and FFT capability.· (And it has a few bugs )
Version 5.1 for Vista will be out soon; the software itself is ready and I am just in the process of writing a Help file for it.· It still does not have zoom or FFT, but the bugs are fixed and a few other features missing from 5.0 have been added back. It is a nice interface if you do not need the FFT functionality.·
I would suggest that if you have the time, go ahead and complete Understanding Signals Chapter 3, Activity 3 if you haven't already.· Although the environment will be different, the remaining activities can be performed to demonstrate the concepts introduced in the book.

I have used both the 4.0 and the 5.0.. I went back to the 4.0 because of some of the issues you wrote about. good to know its being worked on.
