Newbie Here! Why not Serial Port for MSRS?

Hi,
I'm a newbie and a DOT NET programmer.· I know absolutely nothing about robots but I just discovered the Microsoft Robotics Studio and I thought I'd give it a try.· I just ordered my first Boe-Bot only to discover that it requires an additional $70 BlueTooth module to interface with MSRS?· Why not the Serial cable that comes with the BOE?· Is it completely out of the question?· Can you support it?· Can it be hacked?
I plan on making multiple versions of my project and so I am a little bit disappointed at the ballooning cost.· I was hoping to spend $50 per unit on a BS2; when I realized that the BOE is pretty much required I could deal with that, but now BS2 $50 + BOE $65 + $70 BT module costs more than the iRobot Create + Command Module ($179) which also has volumes of support, documentation, and tutorials for MSRS unlike the BS2.·
I chose the BS2 because of compatibility with MSRS and also because it seemed the easiest to mod with 3rd party servos and electronics components cannibalized from vacuum cleaners, toy RC cars, etc.
Advice or suggestions?
