Common cheap switching transistor suggestions?
Hi, I'm looking to buy a small bulk load (50 - 100 ish) NPN transistors, used mostly for switching. Base will be a 5v signal from a stamp, although will also be used in stamp-less circuits, with a maximum of 9v and it is to be used as a switching transistor, nothing more.
Besides having a fancy for TO92 style casing (don't like the metal caps on the TO18's), what do people suggest?
From searching the boards, Mike Green and others seem to recommend the 2N2222, but Maplin in the UK (www.maplin.co.uk) sell the 2N2222A (not sure of the difference), but at £1.13 each, which is about $2 to you lot on the other side of the Atlantic! Unfortunately it is the best place to buy these kind of things from over here, we're very limited for choice (Any UK readers of this, please oh please correct me, i'm fed up being ripped off by Maplin
).
I just want a cheap switching transistor that is cheap enough to buy in a decent bulk size, rather than individually as and when I need them for each project.
Many thanks in advance,
Morrolan

It's slightly less powerful (lower max current) than the 2N2222A.

There's nothing like a new idea and a warm soldering iron.
Maybe this page will help you find a locally available equivalent to the 2n2222.

The NPN that comes to mind is BC547 (45V, 0.2A)
