wireless communication for robot

Hi everybody
I hacked an rc Hummer and added the BS2, sonar and HB25 motor controller.· It still needs some work, but would like to run this bot around the block, chase some dogs and scare·old ladies.
Eventually the goal would be for an autonomous bot, but for now I would need to send commands to the BS2 and recieve·data in the form of video.
· I am not too familiar with Bluetooth, but from what I know it's probably out of the question for that kind of distance,·so what are the other options?
How about strapping a laptop to the chassis and using a wireless network?· I hear the Wireless N has some good distance.·How could I send commands to the BS2 without doing a remote desktop to the other computer?

Thanks
Jim

XBee is also simple to use and can be configured to look just like a standard serial port, both to the BS2 and the terminal on the other end. XBee Pro has a higher power level and more range www.maxstream.net/products/xbee/xbee-pro-oem-rf-module-zigbee.php. SparkFun has a breakout board for mounting either XBee device on a breadboard or other 0.1" centers board www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8276.

Range isn't quite as good, but you could use a Wifi bridge going into a pink or ethernet->serial device. Then if you got your portforwarding set up correctly, you could drive it from anywhere in the world (as long as you got wifi).
