oLED uSD card usage

Ok

I've gotten pretty comfy with the oLED display's command set. I just got a 1 gb micro sd card in the mail today and I want to use some of the memory card functions. Is there an easy way to store a picture onto the card and call it up on the screen?

Can I simply write to the card on the PC (probably too easy)?
Do I have to decode a bitmap into binary and load it line by line into the card through the basic stamp (this seems like the solution)?

How to I structure the pixel info?

I understand there is a difference between memory stored bitmaps (in the screen) and bitmaps stored on the sd card. It seems that the display stored bitmaps can only be monochrome and you choose the color, but I think with stuff on the SD card you can have 16bit colors (is this true)?

Someone please point me in the right direction.

thanks!
