damage control

I made a noob move this weekend and connected my BOE (rev c) to the wrong power supply - I mistakenly used a 6 VAC 700mA supply. It worked for a while... anyway, now the BOE won't power up. My question: I have an older (rev a) BOE that I wanted to use to see if I destroyed the BS2 as well. Is there a QA type program that I could run on the BS2 that was socketed in the BOE that I smoked?

Typically, the regulator will sacrifice itself to protect the rest of the circuitry. If the Stamp Editor will download a program to the Stamp, it probably is ok. The download won't check the individual I/O pins for proper operation, but you can do a "blink the LED" type program for each I/O pin and connect an LED to each pin in turn through a 470 ohm resistor to see if the pin works.

I'm quite surprised that anything bad could've happened to either the Stamp or the BOE. Vin (your 6VAC for awhile) feeds two things (in addition to, possibly, the servo headers): an LM2940 regulator on the BOE and an LM2936 regulator on the Stamp itself. Both regulators have reverse battery protection and should be able to stand up to the negative swings from your power supply. When you say the BOE "won't power up", do you mean the LED doesn't come on? Will it come on if there's no Stamp in the socket? Are you sure the DC supply you're using now has a plug whose center is positive?

Newzed sells a Stamp Tester that tests all the pins... http://hometown.aol.com/newzed/

sorry for not being more specific... BOE "won't power up" = no LED, and no servo activity (have 4 servos plugged into the servo plugs on the BOE. I tried this with the correct power adapter. I have not tried it without a stamp socketed. I will try that when I get home this evening...

Be sure to unplug the servos, too, when you test. They may have gotten blitzed, if they're being powered from Vin.
