Resonator not working(different resonator models)

From my previous post i have ended up using different Resonators for my OEM BS2sx. At the time i only had a 20Mhz resonator with me used it and it worked. Or rather it will only work to some degree as per discussion in the previous post. For the BS2sx i needed to fit the correct 50Mhz resonator to avoid any possible problems.
Bought a 50Mhz resonator from a local electronic shop. After fitting the resonator the stamp editor does not recognize the module as any of the stamp models. Stamp not active. I have removed it and replaced it several times and even fitted the 20Mhz back to check the circuit, i still had no luck.
I previously had this problem exchanging 20Mhz resonators on the OEM BS2, also bought from this local electronics shop. The effect was the same. The parallax resonators works but the locally bought resonator does not work. Both are the 3 legged ceramic type.
What are the differences? What should i be asking for when buying the resonator?
