MacBookPro - Parallels Desktop - Windows XP Pro w/sp2 - Propeller Tool 1.05.5

Hi all,

This is my first post. Hope I'm doing it right. I'm not sure if this is old news, running Propeller Tool on a Mac.

I just wanted to let any Mac users know that it works.

Didn't work on the first try. Com port not found. With XP running ,I did the following: Unplugged Propeller Demo Board

Installed Parallels Desktop Tools - Installed USB Drivers (FTDI VCP) from the Parallax cd - Restarted Parallels Desktop and XP

Plugged in Demo Board - "New USB Device Found" messages popped up. - The last one said "device is now ready to use"

In Parallels Device dropdown menu, I set USB to : FT 232 R UART and ran the Propeller Tool.

Not exactly sure which step fixed the problem , this time it worked as expected, and every time since.

Cheers B.W.

Along those lines ... VMWare's Fusion works fine as well (MacBook - VMWare Fusion - Windows XP Home - Propeller Tool 1.05.7)

Do any of these environments work with 10.4.1 or do I have to shell out another $3000?

Can Apple output an interlaced signal yet?

How would I output a composite sync from a Mac?

If you are on X86, then Virtualbox *should* work for you rjo_
Why not download it and give it a go? It's free for personal use (Or even commercial use if you are using it personally)

As to your other questions, I'm using DVI so I would not know. Don't even think my Mac has a Composite output.

There are Apple adapters that will go from DVI or mini-DVI to VGA or composite video. They're small and relatively cheap.

I'm not sure whether Parallels Desktop or VMWare works well with MacOS 10.4.1. They work best with 10.4.9 or 10.4.10 which are both free upgrades ... you can either use the Apple Updater or download the complete updater application.

If you're using a PowerPC, your best choice is GuestPC which is an emulator, so it's slow, but does work.

It's a PowerPC... so I might as well wait for IBM to get user friendly.

One thing you have to give Apple... they stayed out of the IPOD adapter business.
I don't know how many flops it would take to make an adapter that reliably breaks after 100 uses.

    Exactly...

If it's good enough for Chip... it's good enough for me.

Sorry Wizard, the Propeller IDE (Proptool) was written for Windoze.. :( No mac programming for you.. On the upside, when you finally get your mind wrapped around the Propeller (V1), theres rumor that V2 will allow for on-board editor.. :) :)

    TheWizard65,
It's slow but servicable ... I ran the Propeller Tool for a while using VirtualPC and Windows XP on a PowerPC Powerbook running MacOS 10.2.8. I think GuestPC will still work with 10.2. Check their website www.lismoresystems.com/en/.

Thanks, to all that responded to my question. I'll stick with my xp loaded laptop for now. Im kinda in the middle of the road. I have windows XP based Machines and I still play with Macs. Hard to lose the Mac Habbit, since I started in the early 80's running the local Mac Based BBS on a Mac Plus. Using a 2400 Baud Modem. Agian Thanks
