Hello,

Does anyone know of a good .com source (ad good price) for dry ferric chloride powder (to be diluted with water to make PCB etchant solution)?

Thanks

Most places sell it already in solution, but I know All Electronics and Ocean State Electronics have the dry form (branded Datak).

If you are in the US, I would just recommend trying a local Radio Shack, they sell the solution in pint bottles for about $5 which is a reasonable price and very convenient if you're not doing a lot of boards.

You might try chemical supply places and also look into ammonium persulphate.

I'm not familiar with ammonium persulphate. What's the story with it?

Its just another common etchant. It's more likely to be found online as a dry chemical instead of in solution because once dissolved it doesn't have as good a shelf life as ferric chloride.

I know I'm dredging up an old discussion by mentioning this... but I home brew my own etchant from common materials. I get Hyrdogen Peroxide solution from the local pharmacy and a jug of Muriatic Acid from the local Home Supply like Lowes or Home Depot but you can also get it from a swimming pool supply store.

    See http://www.fullnet.com/~tomg/gooteepc.htm for more info.
