Need Help InfraRed to detect and Capture image

I want to make a project :
capture image car.if car in front of camera then camera capture image that car.I will use infrared to detect if car is present infront of camera.I will use java program(if camera detect by infrared than microcontroller send a function getImage() to my rogram JAVA ,getImage() is function to save image to file ).Please anybody help me.What must i use microcontroller, i plan i will use basic stamp 2 is it true.

Parallax has several texts that have chapters on IR distance detection. Start with Chapter 7 in www.parallax.com/dl/docs/books/edu/RoboticsV2_2.pdf. This is written for use with the BoeBot, but the distance detection requires only a Stamp, an IR detector (www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=350-00014) and one or more IR LEDs mounted in a small black (IR opaque) plastic tube (www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=350-00017) to narrow the beam (and a couple of current limiting resistors). The webstore pages for the IR devices have a link to a basic application note as well.
