Robotic Rover Project (Autonomous & Teleoperated)

Hi guys,
I had posted sometime back about my robotics project. I was making a 4WD rover capable of autonomous as well as teleoperated override mode. In the override mode, my robot can be controlled wirelessly via a control application I developed in VB.
I am in the process of documenting the robot's development and design aspects so that others can learn from my experience. Please visit my documentation and videos on:

Suggestions/comments etc for the robot and documentation are welcome.
Enjoy!

The blog is really nice. I have bookmarked it and will go back and study it in detail.

Like I mentioned in the documentation, I used solidworks for this project. It makes it very easy to create the engineering drawings from your 3D model.

Question i have is - Did you make the chassis or have a company cut and bend the metal for you?

What did you use to do that? 3DS MAX?
Is it a real simulation or just an animation (for the stuff running on the "virtual" computer)?

bietz - The animation was created from the 3D model that I created with SolidWorks and imported into, you got it, 3DS Max. My brother who is a 3D animator made the animation for me. I wanted to see how the arm would look like before I built the actual thing. Wonder, what we'd do without 3D CAD ??
That arm is now mounted on the rover platform. I will post a video soon. Waiting for a sunny day (yea its winter in Toronto).

What is your total weight?
What is your top speed with those motors?
regarding total speed, i haven't measured the exact speed, but the rover is really fast because of the large diameter of the wheels. The motors have very high torque and can move the rover really quick. I am guesstimating the speed to be likely 3-4m/s that means roughly 7-10km/hr (~4-6mph).
In autonomous mode, I limited the speed to a max of 50% of top speed, so that it doesn't get out of control. The top speed is achievable only in teleoperated mode, when its controlled by my software on a PC.
