Using the Memory Stick Datalogger

Hi All,
I'm testing the memory stick datalogger on my Board of Education kit and I'm getting an unexpected result in the Debug Terminal.

Here is what I get:
Memory Stick Datalogger Test V1.0

Synchronizing...
Checking for USB Flash drive...
Drive D: Ready...
Random Number (Seed) = 7618
Error reading the seed file -- Halting execution!

When I connect the thumb drive to my PC and check it out I see that the expected "SEEDFILE.TXT" isn't there. Instead it is "SEEDFILE" but missing the extension.

Anyone ever see this before?

Thanks,
Lance

Ahh, I should specify that I'm testing using the "DataloggerTestV1.0.bs2" file available from the Datalogger download area.

    Lance,
Just opened my thumb drive, and checked it out. won't be able to test it till until Monday.
Just read the Doc. though. Are you connecting your thumb drive directly into your computer or are you connecting thru a hub ?

    Rob,
Directly. But I think the issue is when it's connected to the STAMP, not the PC.

    Lance,

In the documentation there is a section that covers possible corruption of the drive file system and how to correct it using chkdsk. Please read that section and follow the directions to see if this solves your problem. Take care.

The precautions in the Parallax docs regarding the memory stick are worth reading, I have had many times where the disk becomes corrupted because I removed it at the wrong time. Even·on the PC I have a little icon that allows for safe removal from the PC.

The main thing I wanted to say and maybe get some feedback from anyone who has had a similar experience to me is about the memory stick itself. I had read on other posts that some thumb drives would not work with the datalogger. So whenever I came across a drive that would not work right I put it down to the fact that this was a bad thumb drive to use with the logger and discarded it from the project.

Recently I decided to go back to a couple of these "bad" memory sticks and instead of formatting from explorer like I would normally do I formatted from Computer Management which gave me more options on the way the stick is formatted. I was surprised to find the "bad" sticks would now work fine.

I have not tried enough memory sticks and don't know enough about formatting to know if this is a "cure all" but wondered if anyone else had an answer or seen the same thing.

Jeff brings up a good point…It is also possible some are formatted in the wrong format, which may make them unreadable by the Vinculum firmware. Take care.
