Regarding RFID

I am planning a new project based on RFID with BS2. I need a read distance of a feet or so. What are my options for that?
Does enclosing the RFID reader in a plastic casing effect the read distance ?

Thank you.

You will probably not be able to do what you want with the parallax product. You will need more expensive, high frwquency readers and tags.

Thank you stephen. I guess I am gonna use the one from Parallax itself as if fits by budget.
What defines the range...is it the reader or the tag or both?

The reader and tag are responsible for the distance of readability.· The Parallax RFID Reader can read up to 5" with the 54 mm x 85 mm Rectangle Tag.· Unfortunately, you are not able to change the antenna on the Parallax RFID Reader to increase distance.

That should be good for developing my concept for now. I don't think enclosing will affect the reader its performace, will it?

It would be great if parallax can put efforts to increase the range and there could be many applications coming up with that.

Make sure your case isn't made of metal and you should be fine.
