Taking Temperature and Humidity Measurements using SX and some wireless module

I have played with the stamp and SX chips. Mainly running the programs that have been published in Nuts & Volts or in the manuals. I have a PDB board. Now I have a real project that I would appreciate some help with. Here are the requirements.

I would like to be able to measure the temperature and humidity in several rooms in my house.(Attic, Bedroom, Family room, Basement)
I would like to sample this data approximately every 30 minutes.
I don't want to connect wires to each room so I would like to use some kind of wireless connection.
I would like the information sent back to a computer so that I may record the data.
I would like the actual unit in the room to display the temperature and humidity using LED's.

I know that Parallax has a humidity/temperature chip that they sell so I think I can figure out how to connect that using LED's. My big issue is the wireless part. I have looked at the Zigbee modules but I don't know if that is what I am looking for. I would appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks
David

Range is obviously the issue here. What is your maximum?

You probably want to at least double that against manufacturer spec, as you will need to account for wireless obstacles inside buildings .. walls, cables, electrical equip, etc..

I guess a quick test using a modern digital cordless telephone may give some idea. But the base station where you want your SX to be... If that reaches to everywhere you need, then you can order some RF with similar range spec.

    David,

I am using a pair of Parallax RF TX & RX modules (http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=27980)·to do something similar.

I have·a transmitter in my garage that is transmitting ouside temperature to a receiver in my bedroom. The distance is 50 ft and there are several walls in between and it works great. You should be able to have several transmitters with different synchronizing header bytes in different locations transmitting to one receiver.

Martin Hebel was selling an XBee adapter for the Parallax boards, but recently stopped. However, his webpage still contains some useful information.
