Friends:

Can someone suggest a more powerful and faster servo to replace the stock SumoBot servos and thus improve the performance of it?

Thanks amigos, -Migs

How fast and how powerful do you want to go? I would start with R/C aircraft and car catalogs for sources.

    Take a look at Servo City ( http://www.servocity.com/index.html )
if nothing else it will give you an idea of what is out there.

    Hi again Stephen:

I am making a DC motorized SumoBot with its separate motor controller, but I want to battle it against my upgraded servo driven SumoBot. In my search I found a continuous rotation servo from Hi Tec and the Dynamixel AX 12+ . The Hi Tec is almost impossible to find in web (someone who sells it) so tell me if you or someones knows where to get it. The Dynamixel uses a serial control system which is really interesting but seems overkill. What else do you (and you-all) suggest? I'd like a concrete model suggestion. Also, most of the servos out there are non continuous rotation, and I'm not too inclined to "hack it" into CR operation. (I don't want to ruin it).

    Ideas? -Migs

    K4shf:

Neither the Futaba site nor the Hi Tec site list list a continuous rotation servo. Did you see one there that is a possible option?

    Thanks for posting! -Migs

As for "how fast I want to go", as fast as possible without overwhelming the sensors ability to react in time to fall off the ring. But 30 inches per second would be nice. Like the wicked fast SumoBots on YouTube. -Migs

    Oper8rAl:

Nice link (Servo City)- Thanks. It has no search mode, so do you know a model? Remember, it has to be continuous rotation. I'll leave a note on their contact form in the meanwhile.

    Thanks! Migs

They have some with titanium gears, 2000 oz in torque.....continuous rotation. As far as Futaba, I know I've modified them in the past for continuous rotation....

Hi K4shf: (how did you pick your name?)

The HSR-5995TG Ultra Torque servo is a 180 degree servo. I need continuous rotation. Do you think those folks at Servo City would hack it for me? Is it that hard to hack?

Also: HSR-5995TG Ultra Torque $86 OUCH! How about less than $50 each?
